Chuquiragua (Chuquiraga jussieui) is one of the most emblematic plants of the páramo. Known as the Flower of the Andes and the National Flower of Ecuador, chuquiragua grows in the high elevations of the Andes, above 3,000 meters (9,842 feet). Chuquiragua is believed to have healing and anti-inflammatory properties that help stimulate the immune system, as well as aiding intestinal and liver functions. It is often prepared as a tea made from the roots, leaves, and flowers.
