Vicuñas (Vicugna vicugna) in Chimborazo National Park. Once common in Ecuador, vicuñas disappeared over the centuries as their habitat was replaced with sheep-grazing lands. They were reintroduced to Chimborazo National Park in 1988 when a population of the animals was brought in from Bolivia, Perú, and Chile. Today they are thriving and are a common sight on the slopes of the Chimborazo volcano.
