The oso de anteojos (Tremarctos ornatus), known as the spectacled bear or Andean bear in English, is one of eight species of bear in the world, the only one found in South America. This bear was spotted at the Maquipucuna Reserve, about two hours outside of Quito. It migrates through this area each year in September and October, to feed on the fruit of the aguacatillo tree.
