Julio Jaramillo, el Ruiseñor de America (the Nightingale of America), is heralded by his hometown in the Museo de la Música Popular Julio Jaramillo Laurido (Julio Jaramillo Laurido Museum of Popular Music). The story of his life is a classic one for musicians and artists everywhere, one of overcoming hardships and the resistance from his family to pursue his creative dream.
Julio Jaramillo ended up becoming a great star throughout Latin America, recording more than 4,000 songs from 1954 until his death in 1978. His biggest hit was Nuestro Juramento, written by Puerto Rican composer Benito de Jesús, but my favorite one of his songs is Arrepentida.
