The Iglesia de Todos Santos, looking out over the Puente Roto. This "broken bridge" was built between 1840 and 1850 to link the city center with El Ejido, on the other side of the Rio Tomebamba. Part of the bridge was destroyed in 1950, when the river overflowed its banks in a great storm. Today the Puente Roto remains as a monument to the power of the river, its remaining arches stretching gracefully toward the river in brick, stone, and marble.
