From the top platform next to the Temple of the Sun, the stone walls of Ingapirca form the shape of a puma. Along with the condor and the serpent, the puma was considered to be a sacred animal to the Incas and figured prominently in the mythology of the people. These three animals form the trinity of the Incas, representing the Earth, the sky, and the underworld. The puma roams the Earth with patience and strength. The condor can fly up to the heavens and deliver messages to God. The snake travels to the underworld, shedding its skin and being reborn in a representation of the circle of life.
