Way Out There Argentina

Last Day in Camarones

Sunrise on the beach, looks like another beautiful warm day is dawning. It is my last morning in Camarones, a sad feeling as I sit on my favorite rock and watch the sun rise up over the ocean. The waves are crashing on the beach, birds are flying by, and all in the world feels peaceful and right.

We had our last dinner in Camarones last night, going over to Gaby, Romi, and Geno's house for a tasty home-cooked meal of Argentine-style tacos. It was a vegetarian meal, very unusual in beef hungry Argentina. The filling for the tacos was a seasoned blend of shredded carrots, eggplant, onions, and tomatoes. It was all topped off with palta (guacamole) and paired with some delicious Mendoza red wine.

The next day I took a walk around town, which was quiet and peaceful in the early morning. The streets were mostly deserted but for the occasional stray dog.

I came back to the house and hung out with the other volunteers for a while. Then we packed up our bags and said our sad goodbyes to Gabi, Romi, and Geno. Andrés came to pick us up in the van and take us back to the airport in Trelew.
